PID Loop Tuning & Advanced Process Control Strategy for Power Generation

Class Description

Designed for engineers and technicians, class will cover:

  • Basic process control terminology and building blocks (day 1)
  • Advanced process control techniques (day 2)
  • Best practices and techniques for boiler tuning (day 3)
  • Plant-specific control problems (day 4 - optional)

Attendees will receive an overview of all critical boiler control loops and control methods, as well as step-by-step techniques for tuning each application area. We will also discuss common difficulties, pitfalls, and special considerations that often make proper boiler tuning so challenging. Hands-on exercises throughout the training will help attendees better understand boiler tuning principles.

Day 4  Plant-Specific Control Problem Discussion (optional)

Custom plant-specific training focusing on applying class principles to resolve real process control problems at the facility. If there are known issues to discuss, we encourage the plant representative to send appropriate P&ID drawings, control schemes, and/or performance data indicating the problem to the instructor at least one week before the onsite class, if such data exchange is possible and permitted.

In our experience, it is of great value to allow students to immediately work on and discuss real-time plant issues, with the instructor right beside them to help. For this reason, this optional day of training is often moved to a control room or simulator room where everyone can see real plant data and work on issues in realtime with the assistance of the instructor present.
